FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Registration

How do I register my child with Louis B Juniors?

Applications are done online only. You can submit your application HERE. Please do not call or email the agency to apply. If under the age of 18 years, please have your parent/legal guardian apply on your behalf.

All submissions will be evaluated and if successful a response will be issued accordingly. If you have not heard from us within 10 working days, consider your application unsuccessful.

How much does it cost to join?

There are no fees for your child to register with us, attend castings or do a shoot. When your child is confirmed for a job, we take the NAMA recommended Agency commission, as do most agents.

Why was my child’s application unsuccessful?

While we would love to welcome all applicants, we represent a selected board of talent. Reasons for rejection include but are not limited to city of residence, age group, skills and suitability.

All submissions will be evaluated and, if successful, a response will be issued accordingly. If you have not heard from us within 10 working days, consider your application unsuccessful. For other reputable agencies within your city, we advise visiting the NAMA website.

Work

As an agency we can never guarantee that all our models will work. Kindly note that child models 18 years and younger attending a casting must be accompanied by one parent/legal guardian.

Why has my child not been selected to attend a casting?

Some children receive casting invitations within the first week of registration while others might only be offered one casting a year.

We as the agency promote each child to the best of our ability. It is impossible for us to determine how many castings each child will receive as we do not create the jobs ourselves. Instead, we suggest suitable talent for all the briefs we receive from the production companies we work with. It is important your child’s profile is up to date at all times as most castings are dependant on our current sizes and suitability. Please do not call the agency to enquire about castings. You will be informed of any opportunities.

Why was my child not selected for the job after attending the casting?

Even though our booker will promote the best models for each role, we can never guarantee work as ultimately it is up to the client to decide whom he/she would like to confirm for a job.

Will my child’s education be affected?

While castings for school-aged children are mostly after school, shoots will nearly always take place during the day.

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to inform the necessary personnel at the school, to obtain missed work from the teachers concerned and to ensure that the child catches up on any work that has been missed through tutorials or extra classes where necessary.

Does it matter where we live?

Yes, Louis B Juniors is a Johannesburg based agency so the majority of our castings take place in the Johannesburg area. Castings, callbacks, wardrobe fittings and shoots can happen at short notice. If you reside more than one hour’s distance from Johannesburg, it is quite likely you won’t arrive on time. Factors such as heavy traffic, roadworks, accidents can all impact on your journey time.

Terminology

CASTING – when you have an audition for a certain job. This does not mean that the job has been secured/confirmed.

CALLBACK – an invitation to return for a second audition.

OPTION – when you are not 100% confirmed for a job but it is a tentative yes. You need to be available on the day until you have been notified that you have been either released or booked. (Do not make changes to your child’s appearance after casting for the specific shoot as it could cost you the job.)

FITTING – when you are required to go and fit the apparel you will be wearing at the shoot.

BOOKING – when you have been confirmed for the job.

Profile

Why and when should a child model’s profile be updated?

Please update the profile every six months. For promoting purposes, we require current information and recent images of our talent at all times. When profiles are out of date, chances are that the sample clothing sizes will no longer fit. It is the responsibility of the model or Parent/Legal guardian of a child model to ensure that their profile is up to date.

What should I do when my contact details change?

Details regarding casting, fittings, callbacks and shoots are sent mostly via email. Regularly check both your email inbox and text messages as we cannot beheld liable for any opportunity missed.

It is important to notify us should your email address or other contact details change.

Remuneration

How much do child models earn?

Models do not receive payment for attending castings, callbacks or fittings. Performance Fees are payable every day that the model is on set.

Usage fees are based on a percentage of the day fee and vary according to the way in which the final product is used, the territories it is used in, the duration that it is used for as well as the role your child was confirmed for. Although in most cases rates are stipulated by the client, we do negotiate fair rates for our talent where necessary and in accordance with industry standards.

What is the agency commission?

The Agency charges a booking fee of 20% to the client on all hourly, daily and usage fees. This 20% will be included in the original quote/fee from the client. This is between agency and client.

The agency will deduct 20% commission from the model for all jobs and this has no bearing on the 20% booking fee by the client. The agent will invoice both agency fees and model/artist fees. Please note that you can claim back the full amount of PAYE at the end of the financial year (standard PAYE and VAT applies).

Does a child model need a TAX number?

Everyone, even babies, must have a TAX number. No model will be promoted without a TAX number. As a member of NAMA – National Association of Model Agencies – we must comply with this ruling.

SARS rules that all children who work and have completed jobs must be treated as employees and will be taxed at the current PAYE rate (Pay As You Earn). This applies to the gross total income earned for each and every job.

To obtain a TAX number for your child you can visit your nearest SARS office or request that we apply on your behalf at a service fee of R300.

Other

May a child model be registered with more than one agency?

Children registered with Louis B Juniors may not be registered with another agency. Often agencies receive the same casting briefs. There are numerous agencies that send artists who are all casting for similar jobs and when a model is registered with two or more agencies this results in a conflict of interest.

Does Louis B Juniors offer modelling or acting courses?

No, we do not offer training. While you are more than welcome to have your child attend acting/modelling classes at the institution of your choice, this is not necessary at all.
